Subject: IBM Doesn't Support Token-Ring 16/4 on UTP
Date: January 28, 1991
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
GENERAL
INFORMATION: IBM does not support the 16/4 running at 16Mbit on
Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) at all. They say it will work
for short distances.
Some third party companies, Proteon for example, support
16Mbit on UTP with their MAUs, but some of the
specifications per ring change. One of Proteons
specifications is that you are limited to 100 nodes per ring
instead of 255 (IBMs spec. is 255). Contact the vendor for
further information on their products.
